The Argentinian player beat the number one ranked tennis player in an entertaining three set match: 6-4 6-7 7-6.

The Swiss was trying to get his sixth title in California which would mean a new record, but Del Potro ruined his plans. On the other hand this victory set a new record for him: 400 ATP World Tour victories

This was Federer’s first loss for this year.
